Want to volunteer at the library this summer?

Need to complete your school’s community service requirement? Interested in meeting and working with other teens? Want to get practical work experience and job skills? By taking a few hours out of your summer to volunteer at your library, you can do all.

If you're interested you need to first, fill out a teen volunteer application form, then make an appointment to come to one of the teen volunteer orientations.


Dates for orientations:
Saturday, May 22 @11:30-12:30
Wednesday, May 26 @6:30-7:30
Thursday, May 27 @4:00-5:00

The minimum age for volunteering at the library is 14 years old.

Native American Science and Engineering Program


Are interested in pursing a college degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics?
The Native American Science and Engineering Program is a program designed to provide Native American students with the necessary resources to enroll in college and pursue a career in a Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics field.

Eligibility
  • Incoming High School Seniors (Class of 2011) who are on track to completing physics, chemistry, and pre-calculus or trigonometry with a “C” or higher
  • (High School Juniors from Tucson HS, Cholla HS, Pueblo HS, Sunnyside HS and Desert Vista HS will also be considered)
  • Identify as Native American or Alaskan/Hawaiian Native
  • Commit to the overnight residential program from June 20-25, 2010
  • Participate in academic tutoring (required for local students only)
  • Attend NASEP events offered throughout the 2010-2011 school year
  • Assist future NASEP participants with computer builds in your area

Perspectives In Writing For Children

Karen Cushman, author of the Newbery Medal-winning book The Midwife's Apprentice and the forthcoming Alchemy and Meggy Swan, will discuss her experiences writing historical fiction for young readers and her path to publication, including publishing her first book at the age of 53.

Memory Wire Bracelets, Earrings, and Necklaces


Presenter: Vivian Enos

We will use memory wire which is already shaped in the form of rings, like a spring, and tends to keep that shape - and beads to create single strand bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

April 17th Saturday 2pm

Registration begins on Saturday, April 3rd 2pm.
Space is limited to 15.
